First brew lessons…
Greetings, Silbi Brew Works Enthusiasts!
As we embark on our craft beer journey, it's not just about the smooth flow of brews, but also navigating the choppy waters of technical challenges. Here's a snapshot of our recent adventures and how we're tackling them head-on.
1. Brew System Blues and Hopeful Fixes
Our brewing journey hit a snag when our new system’s controller refused to boot up correctly after an initial successful run. With a brew day just around the corner, the pressure was on! Thankfully, the team at morebeer.com is on the case, troubleshooting to get us back on track. I'm hopeful they'll have us sorted out in time for this weekend's brewing session.
2. A Leak in the Conical Fermentor
In brewing, particularly for lagers, temperature control is crucial. So, you can imagine my dismay when I discovered a pinhole leak in the cooling jacket of our conical fermentor. It was a small but significant hiccup. However, the quick response from morebeer.com has been nothing short of amazing. They’ve already dispatched a replacement unit from California. Big thanks to their team for such prompt action! In the meantime, I’ve managed a temporary fix with some silicone sealant to keep our current brew on track. We plan to finish fermenting and lagering this batch before sending back the faulty unit. Impressive customer service, indeed!
3. The Fittings and Hoses Learning Curve
If there's one lesson I’ve learned quickly, it's to never underestimate the need for spare fittings and hoses. Initially, I found myself scrambling for an extra valve here, a spare hose there. My advice? Stock up more than you think you need. I'm eagerly awaiting a shipment of fittings, gaskets, and hoses over the next few days to ensure we’re fully prepared for future brewing. A little over-preparation goes a long way in the brewing world!
Looking Ahead with Optimism
Despite these early challenges, our spirits remain high. Each problem is an opportunity to learn and improve. We’re gearing up for a better-organized, obstacle-free brew day this weekend and many more to come.
Stay tuned for more updates and stories from our brewing escapades at Silbi Brew Works. We’re just getting started, and there's so much more to come.
Cheers to the resilience and excitement of brewing!
